Programs

Smile Partners is growing by leaps and bounds. We're reaching more and more low-income preschool and elementary school kids as we keep adding schools throughout the Puget Sound area and we serve more kids at our existing schools. Plus we're reaching kids earlier than ever!

Preschools

During the 2014-15 school year, we served more than 1,400 preschoolers in King, Snohomish and Kitsap counties, a 31% increase from the previous school year. Our goal is to grow the early intervention/prevention program by 500 preschool patients per year during the next three years. This will be with support from the Murdock Trust, a large family foundation based in Vancouver, Wash., which just announced a $110,000 multi-year grant for our early learning oral health program.

We aim to empower preschoolers to build healthy dental habits while they still have their baby teeth and to help educate parents on good oral health care for their kids. Smile Partners also helps low-income families meet the dental screening and care requirements so their children qualify for federal programs like Head Start.

Elementary Schools

While our preschool program grew by almost a third, our elementary school program jumped by 34% or more than a third, adding more than 1,600 new patients for a total of 6,168 beneficiaries in 2014-15 in King and Kitsap counties. In King County, we now serve the districts of Auburn, Federal Way, Highline, Tukwila and one school in Seattle. In Kitsap County, we serve schools in Bremerton, Central Kitsap and North Kitsap. During the 2015-16 school year, we put our new Smile Coach is service on both sides of the sound. The 36-foot dental hygiene RV was purchased with the generous support of the Pacific Hospital Preservation & Development Authority, the Puyallup Tribe and the Suquamish Tribe.

Senior Services

In Kitsap County, we serve low-income patients 60 or older in our operatory at the Waterfront Park Community Center. The program is a partnership with the Bainbridge Island Senior Center. It's supported by the City of Bainbridge Island, Bainbridge Community Foundation, the island Rotary Club and the One Call For All giving campaign. Our Smiles for Life program has outgrown the Friday time slot and is now taking appointments on Thursdays, as needed.
