Smiles for Life provides an affordable alternative for seniors to maintain their oral health. Untreated infections can lead to serious health issues for seniors -- even preventing them from receiving critical surgery or treatment for other conditions.
Without low-cost options for older adults in Kitsap County, seniors must use emergency rooms at Harrison Hospital and elsewhere. Emergency dental care is painful, preventable, and more expensive. Smiles for Life offers preventive dental services on a sliding fee scale based on income.
Smiles for Life is for seniors (60+) and is hosted by the Bainbridge Island Senior Center located at the Waterfront Park Community Center. Appointments are available on Fridays and Thursdays, depending on demand.
Smile Partners is looking for other qualified senior centers in the Puget Sound area to expand their clinic offerings. Please use the "Join Us" page to apply for a clinic in your area.
Kitsap Transit has several services to help seniors get to their appointments.
The routed bus system operates throughout the county; a patient would go to a bus stop and catch the bus. A trip planner is on the website www.kitsaptransit.com, or you could call our Customer Service office at 360.377.BUSS (2877) for help.
BI Ride is a "dial-a-ride" service on the island. It picks up regularly at the ferry terminal, or with a 2-hour window would pick someone up on the island and take them where they need to go. Here’s the link for the info on BI Ride: http://www.kitsaptransit.com/service/routed-buses/bi-ride.
If you are approved for their ACCESS service, it can pick you up and take them to the community center. Here’s the link for info on ACCESS: http://www.kitsaptransit.com/access-and-vanlink.
Another agency that provides medical transportation for Medicaid patients is Paratransit Services. Here’s a link to their website: http://www.paratransit.net/.
